There are many different styles of flint work, usually varied from village to village and different styles on the same estates. Some flint used as a cheap way to produce housing for farm workers up to the more grand statements on many of the large flint houses.
Restoration can be the most challenging but the most rewarding work. Giving buildings and walls a new lease of life, hopefully, to last another couple of hundred years. Having been involved in many projects for the National Trust Duncan feels this is a privilege to be able to carry out his trade on these buildings.
Lime mortar has been used since Roman times and is still the best mortar for flint and indeed restoration. Adding different aggregates can produce very different finishes and colour. Berry stonework can offer a mortar analysis to get the most precise mix for matching an old mortar mix.
